 | 1/12/2010: DVD Cloner Platinum VI was just released. This is a marked improvement over the DVD Cloner II, III, IV, and V versions and some bugs have been fixed. The new version claims to be able to copy Blu-Ray movies to your hard drive, but our testing shows it's buggy. Blank blu-ray discs are still too expensive to make this practical. We still don't feel the software merits a top ranking and even though this is a new version, their customer service is still not up to par and in some cases is non-existant.
On the plus side, DVD Cloner can copy any DVD movie and has many of the most important features like compression, CSS decryption, episodic support and dual layer support.
DVD Cloner doesn't rank that high with us becuase it's over twice as slow as 1Click DVD Copy, their customer support is almost unresponsive, and even though they have a new release, they have not had a new release in over a year. So when new DVDs come out, some of them can't be copied by Cloner. The decrypter needs to be updated more often. This is why we recommend 1Click DVD copy because the decrypter is updated almost monthly.
We often hear of people having great luck with their DVD Copy software, only to find out later they have trouble copying one particular DVD. You're not going to get much help from DVD Cloner customer support. We recommend 1Click DVD Copy if customer support is important to you.

Features:
DVD Cloner does make high quality copies of most older DVD movies. Since the software is not updated frequently, it doesn't do so well on current movie DVDs.
Similar to 1Click DVD Copy, you can also backup a DVD to your hard drive instead of on a DVD. If you travel and have a laptop, this helps to conserve battery power that's taken up by spinning DVDs. Because DVD Cloner has a built in CSS decrypter, they may face lawsuits from the movie industry and unless they update their software more regularily than they have been recently, it won't do well copying any newer DVD titles. - Supports Dual Layer recordable media.
- Fairly easy DVD Backup
- Copy Blu-Ray to your hard drive. Still a bit buggy
- Good quality compression allows DVD Movie copies to one regular DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW
- Fairly fast DVD copy (within 1 hour)
- Warning: Built in CSS decryption (possible target for lawsuit)
- Warning: Poor customer support
Usability:
DVD Cloner is easy to use. Its very intuitive interface makes it very easy to understand. In addition, there is a lot of help information on the screen to make sure you can figure out what to do. There are custom settings, and these are easy to use as well.
Installation & Setup:
The setup is straight-forward and easy. There is no need to download and install a free decryption program. Although this saves one step during the install, it may lead to trouble for the company - Built in CSS decryption (possible target for lawsuit)
Copy Quality & Compression:
The image quality is very good. Even with compression, it's very hard to tell when viewing the compressed copy. The compression capability is very important because most DVD's won't fit on single DVD-R unless compressed. Store bought DVDs are Dual Layer which is why you need to compress them to get them to fit on the Single Layer DVD-R. DVD Cloner can also write to Dual Layer media which makes for excellent uncompressed copies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows 98se, Windows ME
- Pentium-II 450 MHz or faster processor
- At least 64 MB of RAM
- 10GB free hard disc space
- At least 1 DVD-R(W) or DVD+R(W) Drive
